Outside the Cathedral, the light was blinding and the roar of the crowds quite deafening. Spectators, who had been shading themselves with newspapers, waved frantically. Bands played, cannons boomed out and church bells rang as the couple entered an open landau and began the procession that sightseers had waited so long to witness. The procession and festivities continued on to Athens Palace where there was a sumptuous wedding breakfast for 80 people, before the newlyweds flew off for their honeymoon on Corfu.
